Parts We Coat

Car restoration often involves a wide range of components, from large structural items to small detail brackets. We coat them all:

Engine Bay

  • Valve covers and rocker covers
  • Intake manifolds
  • Engine brackets and mounts
  • Timing covers
  • Oil pans and sumps
  • Air cleaner housings

Suspension & Chassis

  • Control arms and suspension arms
  • Subframes and crossmembers
  • Strut housings and towers
  • Sway bars and end links
  • Spindles and knuckles
  • Chassis rails and components

Detail & Trim

  • Brackets and clips
  • Heat shields
  • Caliper brackets (non-moving parts)
  • Exhaust hangers
  • Bumper mounts and brackets
  • Interior frame components

Classic Cars & Hot Rods

Classic car and hot rod restoration work is a significant part of what we do. These builds demand attention to finish detail — the right shade of chassis black, a period-correct engine bay, or a custom colour that's unique to the build.

We work from colour references, RAL codes, and physical samples to achieve the finish you're after. Whether the job is a concours-level restoration aimed at factory correctness, or a custom hot rod build where every component is part of the statement, we can work to your brief.

We also do wheel and rim powder coating for restoration and custom builds — mag wheels, steel wheels, and alloy rims.

Modern Car Detailing

Powder coating isn't just for classics. Modern car owners use it for engine bay refreshes, suspension upgrades, and detail work on modified vehicles. If you're building a track car, refreshing an engine bay, or upgrading suspension components with quality hardware, powder coating gives those parts a finish that looks factory while lasting longer than factory.

Important: Part Preparation

For restoration work in particular, correct part preparation before drop-off is important. Before bringing parts to us:

  • Remove all rubber bushings, grommets, and seals — these cannot go through sandblasting or the oven
  • Remove all bearings and press-fit components
  • Remove any hardware (bolts, studs, inserts) unless you want them coated too
  • Note any areas to mask (bearing surfaces, threaded holes, etc.) — discuss with us at drop-off

If you're not sure what to prepare, contact us first and we can advise before you pull things apart.

The Process

  1. Assessment: We check parts on arrival and discuss any masking requirements, finish preferences, or areas of concern
  2. Sandblast: All existing paint, rust, and corrosion removed to bare metal
  3. Pre-treatment: Chemical treatment for maximum adhesion
  4. Powder application: Even electrostatic application to all surfaces
  5. Oven cure: Parts cured to achieve full hardness and adhesion
  6. Quality inspection: Finish and coverage confirmed before handover

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — suspension arms, control arms, subframes, strut housings and similar components are common restoration jobs. Parts need to be fully stripped of bushings, bearings, and rubber inserts before we coat them, as these cannot go through sandblasting or the oven.

Yes — brackets, valve covers, intake manifolds, rocker covers, and similar parts are regularly powder coated. Parts need to be clean and free of oil before sandblasting. Heavily contaminated parts may need degreasing first — let us know at drop-off.

Yes — classic cars and hot rods are a significant part of our automotive work. Whether you need period-correct chassis black, a show-quality engine bay finish, or a custom colour for a build, we can work to your brief.

We can work from colour references, RAL codes, Resene, and Dulux references to achieve a colour match. For period-correct restoration work, bring us a reference and we'll work from there. Exact factory colour matching in powder depends on what's available in the powder range — we'll advise on what's achievable.

Any rubber components (bushings, seals, grommets), bearings, and anything that cannot withstand high temperatures needs to come off before drop-off. If you're unsure what to remove, contact us first and we can advise before you start disassembling.
